About Anraku
Masashi Anraku was born in Hiroshima in 1975, and currently resides in Nagoya Japan which is a city bustling with the arts. Anraku creates dynamic work with a bit of retro humor that reminds him of old times in Japan, specifically the 'Showa-era' which was around 1926 – 1989. He started working as an illustrator at 22 and started caricature at 24. Then he expanded his career through various genres of art which eventually led him to his current style which is inspired by 'Showa-retro'. His artwork has layered meaning, many of them depicting 'dajare' or Japanese dad jokes. Anraku leads an artist collectives named 'OekakaiTai' (The Picture Drawing Corp), which consists of clowns and illustrators.
